Written in a personable and direct style, the author gives practical instruction mixed with personal advice as well as vivid stories of his trials and tribulations. Included are the natal charts of Queen Victoria, Presidents George Washington, William McKinley, Grover Cleveland, William Henry Harrison and Ulysses Simpson Grant. Broughton read charts primarily by means of houses and at one point neatly disposes of equal houses, in favor of Placidus. There is an extensive section on planetary hours, as well as a most useful perpetual table of them. Broughton’s use of planetary hours was both original and innovative.
